Following Southern Nyarshiza, this is coffee from Umrage Washing Station in the same Southern Huye district.
Umrage Washing Station coffee has a rich sweetness and a gentle sourness reminiscent of marmalade.
The black tea and herbal flavors give it an elegant impression.
Lightly roasted Rwanda coffee for those who don't like sourness.
We select coffee cherries from 463 farmers in the Kigoma area of the southern Huie district. The total area of the farm is 300 hectares, and the harvest season is from March to the end of June. The coffee produced here has a height of 1,800-2,000m, and the sandy and clayey soils are suitable for growth and create a unique flavor.
Famous for its 2,248m-high Huye Mountain, this area utilizes gentle slopes to enable a well-maintained and highly uniform refining process.
Ripe cherries are hand-picked, pulped the same night, divided into three grades by weight, then fermented for 12-18 hours, divided into further grades, and soaked in water tanks for an additional 24 hours. First, the beans are sorted on covered drying racks for about 6 hours, where the beans are still moist and the unripe beans are green sorted out.
After that, the beans are sorted on a drying rack without a roof and dried for about two weeks (depending on the weather).
Once the beans reach a humidity of around 11 degrees Celsius, they are stored in a warehouse before being transported to a dry mill in Kigali where they are processed and cupped by partner Q graders.
In this way, production, selection, and refinement are carried out under strict quality control, followed by coupling evaluation before shipment.
At washing stations in Rwanda, most of the beans are sorted by women. Most of the income comes from coffee production and is used for children's education, family medical expenses and health insurance, livestock purchase funds and other necessary family expenses.
Lot division is strictly based on the final harvest date, and then cupped by a Q grader to group those with similar impressions into lots.
