Rwanda is one of the producing countries where ONIBUS COFFEE is visiting.Mibilima is a washing station located in the Gakenke district in northern Rwanda. Due to the high altitude the temperature dropes dramatically during the night and it makes the coffee cherries mature slowly to create a rich flavor.The bright acidity is like a mandarin orange, and the sweetness that follows afterward is like honey. The coffee is rich in acidity and sweetness but very cleancup..Lot number [1205] means harvest date.
Dukundekawa Musasa Cooperative in Rwanda was founded in 2000. It is located in the Gakenke district in the north, near Gorilla Mountain.At first, 300 farmers started production, about 20% are women, and there are 3 washing stations (CWS). Mibilima CWS, which started operation in 2007, is located in Mibilima Cell.More than 600 farmers grow the coffee tree in a 72 hectors firm and are internationally certified organic. About 200 coffee trees are held and cultivated per farm.The coffee trees cultivated in Mibilima are grown on hills at an altitude of over 2,000m with the utmost care and attention from the farmers. In addition, lots are sorted according to the harvest date.
The Musasa district is located on the site of the famous former residence of King Mibambwe, and each year farmers donate coffee seeds to the king in preparation for the next season. It was believed that it would give the people the strength and courage of the former kingdom. Farmers from the Musasa district have come together in the Musasa district as the Dukundekawa Cooperative to continue their passion for producing the best coffee beans.The Dukendekawa Cooperative has ensured a high standard of living for its members, Rwandan farmers, and has realized an economically and environmentally sustainable coffee industry.
【Exporter - RWASHOSCCO】The exporter was established in 2005 with the investment of six cooperatives: Northern Dukundekawa, Western Kokagi, Eastern Kokafu, Southern Malaba, Karaba and Buff Coffee. Today, it is one of Rwanda's leading specialty coffee exporters. Inside the washing station, we are striving to share our vision, such as raising literacy rates by putting up signs in English as well as Kigali, and valuing resources. Ms. Angelique, who is currently the representative, is working not only on the quality of coffee, but also on social issues such as improving the working environment for women. She also proactively obtains international organic certifications and thoroughly implements all processes from production to export.
