The Colombian beans introduced here are purchased from SYU-HA-RI, an importer that focuses on producers and has established relationships with them by visiting their production areas.

SYUHA-RI's mission is to "continuously purchase green beans at a fair price from reliable producers, and deliver them to roasters in Japan with optimal transportation, packaging, and above all, the producer's commitment and story". The company is a reliable importer with thorough quality control, not only in terms of taste, but also in terms of the environment surrounding it and the state of preservation.

The following is an excerpt from the importer's data.

Segunda Gomez runs El Guamal Estate with her husband, Jesus Antonio Guerrero.Located in the hamlet of El Taburón, San Agustín, Huila, the 2-hectare farm is situated at an altitude of 1,650 meters.Established in 1991, the coffee planted at El Guamal consists of 3,000 Caturra trees of 3 years old, 3,000 Caturra trees of 7 years old, and 2,000 recently planted Caturra trees.

The coffee is washed process with an emphasis on picking ripe cherries. The cherries are laid down for 12 hours and then fermented dry in tanks for 24 hours. The beans are then taken to a semi-parabolic dryer.Drying time is usually 15-25 days, adjusted according to weather conditions.

Segunda purchased the farm with her husband 32 years ago and has been growing coffee ever since. She sold part of the farm because it was becoming too hard work and she did not want her daughters in the city to take over. Segunda's goal has always been to grow good coffee, and she is willing to work with buyers and exporters who understand that.

- Buyer's Comments-

This was the last farm we visited during our stay in San Agustin. It is relatively close to town and FairField started doing business with them this year.I was impressed that Mr. Alejandro (CEO of FairField) gave a long explanation about a mistake in the first transaction regarding payment. If we lose the trust of the farmer, we will not be able to do business with a good farmer, so I was impressed by Mr. Alejandro's attitude of valuing the relationship.
